Preparing for Fundamentals

Are you ready for fundamentals?

Really, there is not that much it. You really want to be using GUE compliant equipment, and be comfortable in it.

Do I have to practice all the drills

For the love of God, please don't. If you practice the valve drill a hundred times you will miss details, but build muscle memory. This will make it very difficult for you to change on the course. You will actually have a more difficult time than people who have NOT practiced the more complicated drills.

So what should I practice?

Get in the GUE compliant gear, and just get comfortable using it. If you want to practice anything, practice buoyancy control using the wing. The more proficient your buoyancy before the course, the easier time you will have, but remember that is what Garf is there to teach you. That's what you are paying him for.

I'm worried that I'm not ready

If you are thinking about taking fundamentals, or have already booked it with us or another instructor, but are worried that you have made a mistake, then you can always take a days coaching with us. We run a day specifically for this purpose - to assess your current skills and prepare you for GUE fundamentals as best we can. We'll check out all your skills, correct any major problems, and leave you in a place when you can relax in the knowledge that you will get the most out of the course. If you have booked with a different instructor, or want to take the course with another instructor, then please let them know you are doing a days coaching with Garf as a matter of courtesy.
